mine is cheerful--unlike yesterday.
last night there was a storm, but none of us realized how forceful the elements were being until the power went out in our appartment building. it was out for a good half-hour, we lit candles and wandered the halls, connecting to one another in a way that maybe doesn't always happen during fall break when most people are away. a few of us ran around outside, enjoying the sideways-slanting rain but shivering. eventually the lights came back on, but i'd like to think we honored the storm by the type of night we then chose: low-key living-room-sitting, few lights on, slow conversation, a game of scrabble, a little cheap red wine.
today is incredibly beautiful. so beautiful that i feel fantastic after a brisk walk around the loop, part of which i jogged at a pathetic half-walk speed, t-shirt and shorts. its good to know that my mood is permeable to welcome invaders like crisp sunlight, fall warmth, brittle leaves, tree shadows across the path, branches strewn around from the storm, dried grass, so much sun. i was starting to feel yesterday like something was seriously wrong: who knows, it could ahve been loneliness, restlessness, lethargy...a combination of the three. guess all we need sometimes is a little rain?
